PDLC had been trying for over two years to launch a platform that would make intellectual property registration easier. The obstacle was the Nice Classification: nearly 10,000 concepts spread across 45 classes, and in Mexico each class is a separate application — choosing wrong costs money and time. Years later, with the platform already running with real clients and real payments, two new problems appeared: the class search depended on an external service that one day got blocked, leaving users unable to complete a registration, and the interface had aged into something the client called clunky and retro. Rebuilding it could not interrupt the operation already under way.

We rebuilt both halves of the product without shutting the platform down. The public site was redone in Astro: a free name check that flags obvious obstacles before you spend on the filing, prices explained without fine print, and guides that answer what people actually search for — all audited until it met WCAG AA. The application was redesigned around a calm editorial system — a single typeface, hierarchy through whitespace rather than bold weights, color reserved for what genuinely matters — and underneath, the essentials changed: we replaced the external search with an in-house one running against the database, answering in 4 to 31 ms and cutting the application's JavaScript from 517 to 251 KB. We added an AI assistant that answers citing the real catalog and real prices, address autocomplete by postal code using the SEPOMEX catalog, and a dashboard that finally shows the firm where people abandon the process.
