Touch it without having it

Executive Summary
High-fidelity 3D modeling and Web AR implementation for Getac's 2023 commercial events: any attendee could explore the equipment at full scale from their phone's browser, with no download required.
The Challenge
Getac participates in expos and B2B events around the world where it needs to show its catalog of rugged devices to corporate buyers, distributors and channel partners. The problem is logistical: the equipment is physical hardware, robust and expensive — bringing multiple units of each model to every event is costly, complicated and sometimes impossible. The sales team needed a way to showcase the products with the same level of detail and presence as the real hardware, without depending on the physical inventory available at each location.
The Solution
Play.Interactive received Getac's original technical files — the engineering blueprints for each device — and turned them into interactive augmented reality experiences accessible from any mobile browser. The process included detailed 3D modeling of 4 to 7 catalog devices, with texturing and materials that precisely replicate the real finishes: rugged magnesium, LumiBond screens, the characteristic ports and connectors of each device. We also developed low-poly versions optimized for Web AR, ensuring smooth performance on mid-range mobile devices without sacrificing visual fidelity. The Web AR implementation lets any event attendee scan a QR code, open the experience directly in their browser — no app, no download — and place the equipment at full scale on the table in front of them, rotate it, zoom in and explore it as if they were holding it.
